About Me

Emily Imondi, LMHC

My Story

I’ve lived through many of the experiences that can bring someone to therapy.

I’ve experienced difficult relationships – both personally and professionally, divorce, a major career change, moving, remarriage, losing a parent early, and living with chronic illness. Those experiences have shaped how I understand the work – my clinical approach remains grounded in best practices and individualized care.

I also know what it is like to advocate for yourself in the medical system. Living with endometriosis has given me a personal understanding of chronic illness and the importance of speaking up for what you need. Asking for what you need is not being aggressive. You are allowed to be clear and assertive about your own needs.

A little about me:  I live on Long Island with my husband and our 15-year-old Maltese Yorkie, Tyler. Outside of my work as a therapist, I love playing tennis, taking cycling classes on my Peloton, reading a good book (usually memoirs), film, theater, and standup comedy.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe therapy should be genuine, collaborative, and grounded in authenticity and a deep care and respect for you and your story.  You are the expert in your own life. My role is to help you open doors, shine a light on what you may not be able to see on your own, and help you access the strengths that are already there, inside.

I don’t see people as broken. I believe people have an amazing capacity to cope, adapt, and move through difficult experiences and still find meaning and purpose in the struggle.  Sometimes what gets in the way of well-being is being stuck in a pattern that once helped you but no longer fits the life or relationships you want.

My approach is warm, authentic, intellectual, and research-based. Clients often describe me as kind, genuine, and authentic. Who I am in the therapy room is who I am when I’m talking to a friend or loved one. I don’t code switch – you will get the same version of me, always.

Availability: I provide online therapy for clients throughout New York.
