Couples Therapy

With Emily Imondi, LMHC

I’m a therapist who has gone through couples therapy myself. I understand that relationships shift, how much work they take, and how to repair when things have started to crack.

Are you not recognizing your relationship, your partner, or yourself anymore?
Do you miss feeling like your partner was a true teammate?

Maybe the person you once turned toward now feels like the person you’re constantly fighting against. You feel misunderstood. Disconnected. Alone, even though you are in a relationship.

Clients reach out when they want to feel close again but don’t know how to get from where they are today to where they’d like to be. I get it, and I can help.

Couples Come To Me When They

  • Are missing intimacy

  • Repeat the same fights

  • Feel misunderstood

  • Live in conflict

  • Feel alone emotionally

  • Struggle to communicate

  • Don’t know how to “fight right”

  • Lose connection

“Most of us are forced to figure relationships out on the fly, often using the patterns we saw growing up...for better or worse.”

How My Couples Therapy Works

Quality relationships are one of the most important parts of our health and well-being.  The research is clear about how powerful the quality of our relationships are.  My role is to help you understand what is happening between you, rather than deciding who is right or wrong.

It’s not important to me which of you is right. My focus is the health of the relationship’s dynamic(s) and fostering insight, growth, and connection.

Together, we slow down the cycle, understand what each person is trying to communicate, and work toward a relationship where you can listen to understand one another instead of preparing for the next argument.

Modalities I Use

Redefine Your Partnership

The goal is not to make your relationship perfect. It’s to help you understand the dynamic you’re in and create healthier ways of responding to each other.

After Therapy With Me, Couples Report:

  • Less tension

  • More understanding

  • Walls coming down

  • Healthier communication

  • More accountability

  • Better listening

  • Easier & faster de-escalation during conflicts

“You can learn to recognize the cycle before it takes over, understand what’s happening underneath the conflict, and find your way back to being on the same team.”

I see myself as a guide. Together, we’ll wade through the difficult parts and walk to the other side, where things feel lighter and more at ease.

About Emily Imondi

I believe relationships are deeply shaped by our early experiences, our expectations, and what we learned about connection.

That doesn’t mean we’re destined to repeat those patterns – with awareness and support, relationships can change.

I bring warmth, authenticity, and research-based thinking into our work. I’m not interested in assigning blame – figuring out who is “right” has never been a helpful venture. We’ll look at what is happening between you and what each person needs so you can build a relationship that feels more honest and connected.

I’ve lived through difficult relationships myself. I know what it is like to feel lonely inside a relationship you hoped would be different. I also know what it feels like to be cared for and to experience a healthier partnership. That personal experience shapes the way I understand couples therapy.

A little about me:  I live on Long Island with my husband and our 15-year-old Maltese Yorkie, Tyler. Outside of my work as a therapist, I love playing tennis, taking cycling classes on my Peloton, reading a good book (usually memoirs), film, theater, and standup comedy.

Availability: I provide online therapy for clients throughout New York.
